A new door! They built a little step for us, too, but it needs a little leveling, don't you think? Anyway, I like it much better than the "deck" that was on here before!

Steps! Oh, and topsoil by the house and gravel for a sidewalk, but seriously - steps!
The front door and its rotten sill are out, and the new wood and door are going in, slowly. This door was probably put in when the porch was first walled in sometime in the thirties (or forties?), so it's in rough shape. I'll get a photo of the new door up as soon as it's done.
The rotten sill on the back side has been replaced, too. Not bad, hey?

Almost To The Finish Line

The window is in! The construction guys are not included, unfortunately.
The front porch has been reinforced, insulated, framed up, and walled in. The boys are already calling it "the lair".
We got a load of gravel for the driveway - that's GOT to be a good sign. And the truck is a Mack, Jake's favorite.
The boiler is in, and the gas is hooked up. The radiators aren't connected yet, so hopefully it won't snow.

The floor joists have been reinforced, so the floors no longer "bounce".

The siding is done, and it's bright!
The LP tank is in, but the inspector has to give it the OK before we'll have heat.
Plumbing! Utilities! Soft, hot water!
The windows and siding are out of the stairwell.
The hole in the bathroom wall is, um, noticeable, isn't it? I told Mike it'd make a really, really big medicine cabinet.

We've been waiting a while for things to start happening again, and after a week of nothing, now we have this...

The roof is on, just the chimney patches left to do. Now if that plumber would just show up....

The Plumber Is Not So Dreamy After All

You may have been wondering where all the progress on the house went. Well, we have been wondering the same thing. Since the plumber was here (a week ago Sunday), there has been exactly zero progress on the house. Zip. Zero. Nada. The weather was beautiful, the ground was dry, the construction workers were...elsewhere. We heard a lot of excuses and promises and sob stories, but bottom line = the week was lost. This week has been different, thank goodness! Lots of trucks and construction workers and Progress. The power company connected us yesterday, after a few well-placed phone calls from Mike. Hooray! The contractor showed up today with his guys, and was "surprised" that the plumber had decided not to show up last week. He says the plumber will really, really, "really" be out tomorrow to give us running water, really. I'll believe it when I turn on the water and something happens. You ever notice that when "mis-communication" happens, it's always the other guy's fault? Sigh. I AM moving back in this weekend, water or no water -- I miss my house!
